International Talk Like A Pirate Day/Laundry Day/Butterscotch Pudding Day/Spirit Of The West Festival (South Dakota)
2008-09-19 @ 11:48 p.m.

Attended Joanna Dong's short concert to mark the launch of her debut EP, Lullaby Nomad, which everyone should go and get. Right now! Listening to her sing, even while nursing a horrible cold, was amazing. In an age where technology makes it possible for even talentless hacks to release pitch-perfect music, Joanna is a stunning example of what talent really is. I really enjoyed the concert! The way she literally breathed new life into familiar songs like the Sesame Street theme was a real aural treat. Also bought another couple of local debuts by Jack & Rai and Daphne Khoo. I've always meant to catch the former at their pub gigs, but have yet to do so, and getting the CD was the next best thing. As for Daphne, I've always been curious to hear what she sounds like without her cutesy, nasal inflection.

I also bought three pairs of shoes today, one each at Aldo, Beetlebug and Pedro. That's in addition to the shirt I bought at G2 Black Label, two belts from Esprit and one from Topman. I don't feel guilty about the money spent, since these are areas that I've been neglecting. (Belts, in particular, may be my new weakness, after jeans.) I resisted the urge to buy anything else, since as it is, I have to repack my two suitcases. Probably will end up taking out some jeans and getting my dad to bring them over when he goes to London. Either that or some creative rearrangement of the suitcases' contents. Had kind of forgotten about packing shoes until this morning, I must confess. Definitely no Russell Hoban novels coming with me this time. I packed Neil Humphrey's book though. Consider it a slice of home to remind me where I'm coming from. Maybe I'll just pick an author and bring all his/her books over? The stack'd have to be thinner than the Hoban one of course. Maybe Alessandro Barricco, an author I've recently purchased but have not made time to read? Or Italo Calvino, who sparkles in Invisible Cities and If On A Winter's Night A Traveller, but bores me in Adam, One Afternoon? Choices, choices...
