Went down to Borders, intending to buy some of the texts I'll need for my first-year modules, but I couldn't find any of them. I ended up buying four unrelated books. Well, technically I did find Hanif Kureishi's The Buddha Of Suburbia, but it was the Penguin edition and what I want is the Faber & Faber one. I think I found an updated edition of one of the Granta anthologies in the list, but that was listed under secondary reading, so it's not as important. I think I'll end up buying what I can find at Kinokuniya and ordering the rest off Amazon UK when I get over there. Borders has a terrible selection, or rather, it's so disorganised that even if there were gems to be found, it's impossible to do so. That and Kinokuniya has a searchable catalogue. Online. Like I was telling Eugene, I think Borders is just so plebeian these days! My godmother treated me to dinner at Friends@Jelita, the restaurant that replaced Pizza Hut. Quite a nice place, although the portions were surprisingly small. Going to read all day tomorrow... |
