Postponed tuition to the afternoon, just in case I ended up getting back really late from Colin's party. I made it back home at a reasonable hour, but since I had cell in the evening, I suppose it still made sense to have pushed tuition to a later time. Basically meant I spent one hour at the library in Lot 1 instead of six. (I even managed to type out a new poem in my handphone while my tutee was doing his comprehension!) Returned Terence Heng's From Where I'm Standing and The Secret Life Of Poems by Tom Paulin. The former was fairly interesting; the latter was downright awesome and fascinating. Paulin's analyses of the poems is impressive because of its keen focus on the sounds in the poem, something which I personally found to be relatively untouched on during my experience as a Literature student. I guess I'm just not used to looking at poetry in that light. One might be tempted to say that people like Paulin ascribe too much significance to something as mundane as the sound of words, but after hearing Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market read aloud, I'm inclined to disagree... |
