Lemonade Day/Corn Palace Festival (South Dakota)
2008-08-20 @ 11:59 p.m.

Was at the Singapore Sports School today for work. Wow. The architecture's pretty cool, even if the location of the school isn't all that accessible. (To clarify, my idea of accessible is within walking distance of an MRT station, which means I think a lot of places are inaccessible. Haha!) The students were quite well-behaved, so I've no qualms about heading back again next week for the second half of this learning solution. Went down after lunch to Vaish's place to pick up my copy of Russell Hoban's Turtle Diary. I still can't believe that whoever was selling it online at Alibris was selling a new copy for such a low price when Amazon was charging ridiculous amounts for used copies. I feel incredibly lucky to have nabbed it! Now my Hoban collection is almost complete. Chatted with her parents for about an hour, until I was late meeting Eugene Chan at City Hall MRT. (I gave him Ben Woon's ticket because that silly boy forgot he was supposed to be keeping me company at Own Time Own Target.) We had dinner at tcc, and I realised that the next time I eat at tcc, I can pretty much use my points to redeem my whole meal. The triple bill was really good, outrageously funny. I was particularly impressed by Laremy Lee's first script, Full Tank. (Randomly, I remember his name from the Renaissance Publishing launch a few months ago.) Watching the plays brought back memories of my NS days, which have become rose-tinted in retrospect, as is the inevitable tendency with memories. I'm not going to say I miss those days, because I really don't. What I miss is the sense of camaraderie, however fleeting it may have been. There is something about sitting on top of vehicles under the night sky, waiting for yet another batch of trainees' summary exercise to be over, which stays with you. That and knowing you were one of the best at your job among your peers. Haha...
