Jump For Jellybeans Day/Always Live Better Than Yesterday/Cotton Candy Day/Raspberry Cake Day/Feast Day Of St. Ignatius Of Loyola/Mutt Day

I'm almost done with my villanelle, which I started to write yesterday. I think it sounds a bit naff, but as a writing exercise, it served its purpose. Whenever I try to write in rhyme, which isn't that often for obvious reasons, I have renewed respect for all the poets who have crafted rhyming poetry. It's one of the reasons Thom Gunn is one of my favourite poets. Here was a man, writing in contemporary times, who produced beautiful poetry that rhymed without sounding stilted. His poem, Thoughts On Unpacking, comes to mind. Not that there's anything wrong with free verse, but you've got to admit, there's something truly remarkable about being able to deliver the poetic goods within the constraints imposed by metre and rhyme. I freely admit that I lack the discipline to do that! Now I'm just going to type out the last couple of lines, and I can hop along to bed. TSPC tomorrow...
