Witnessed the verdict on the Pedra Branca case being delivered via live feed. Singapore has been awarded Pedra Branca, with Middle Rocks going to Malaysia, and South Ledge to the country in the territorial waters of which it is located. If you're thinking that the ICJ has essentially created a new point of contention, since the territorial waters have not been delimited and the ICJ does not have the power to do so, you're almost certainly right. A lot depends on how the two countries work to implement the ICJ verdict. It doesn't take a genius to tell you that the entire issue is far from settled, and given the close proximity of Pedra Branca, Middle Rocks and South Ledge, I'm betting we're going to have some entertaining newspaper reads for the next couple of days as politicians on both sides of the Causeway speak up. Incidentally, South Ledge isn't even visible all the time. It can only be seen at low tide! So yeah, I know the verdict's supposed to be a triumph for international law, but honestly, I think the ruling's going to make things worse, at least for as long as the territorial waters issue isn't resolved. Oh well. The problem with Explorer hasn't been resolved, and I'm not so sure it's a problem with MP3Gain anymore. I think it's really caused by WorldWide Telescope, which I installed recently because I figured it was pretty cool to view the cosmos on my computer, but then the stupid thing wouldn't detect my Internet connection. So I've just uninstalled it, and it seems that the problem has been resolved. No more crazy icons and flickering screens. For now! Have settled tuition for tomorrow, am going to do a comprehension. No vocal practice, so I've got plenty of time to prepare the Bible study. I also dyed my hair today, and it's okay, I guess. Quite a subtle shade of brown, although everyone in my family claims not to be able to tell the difference. I'm thinking of getting a quick haircut tomorrow too, since I've got the time to spare and I need a trim anyway. The Great Singapore Sale's started and I want new clothes! Haha... |
