Cheese Fondue Day/World Grits Festival (South Carolina)/French Quarter Festival (Louisiana)
2008-04-11 @ 11:40 p.m.

Taking 857 home was such a huge mistake. I'm not entirely sure if I even saved a few cents by not taking the MRT, but I'm very sure I wasted about an hour of my life holed up in the bus. Romulus, My Father was quite good. Saw one of my ex-trainees, helping out as an usher. Saw Boo Junfeng. Saw a lot of Australians. Anyway, I particularly liked how the opening and closing sequences of the film had the father, played by Eric Bana, opening his hands and allowing the bees to escape. The film takes a while to grow on you, I think, but bearing in mind that it's based on a biography that Raimond Gaita wrote about his father, it worked overall. So many thanks again to Bernard for the tickets! Shirley and I were hanging around the fringe of the private reception before the screening, watching the other people hobnobbing and mingling. She made a remark about how we looked out of place, whereupon the nearby photographer suddenly decided to snap a picture of us. I actually thought he was trying to get a shot of the moderately chic ladies behind us, so I stepped aside, but then he motioned for Shirley and I to pose. So now there's an unglamorous shot of the two of us floating around in someone's camera. Maybe he needed a shot of the plebeians. Haha...
