Secret Pal Day/Accordion Day/Poetry Break Day
2008-01-13 @ 9:53 p.m.

Cold Rock, where Amanda and Shu En are working now, is pretty cool. Had dessert there earlier! I'm not entirely enamoured of local literature, so feel free to disagree with me on this, but I think the only publishers putting out any local stuff that even has a chance of being worth reading are Ethos and Firstfruits. (I haven't made my mind up about Renaissance yet.) I borrowed eight slim volumes of poetry today at the Queenstown library, all published by Ethos. I think my new temporary hobby shall be to borrow all the Ethos books at the libraries that I visit. Ethos and Firstfruits books just look very nice on the shelf, because most of the books are printed in the same dimensions, which matters to quirky people like me and Shirley. I'm looking for Cyril Wong's first book, Squatting Quietly. The Firstfruits website doesn't seem to sell it anymore, but the Woodlands Regional Library has two copies! Maybe I could e-mail him and ask if it's still in print? I just wrote a new poem today while waiting for service to begin. It's written in what is by now my trademark hexasyllabic pseudo-free verse. I'm quite happy with this effort, especially the title. I was trying to come up with one, and decided to look up the definition of one of the words I used in it, on a whim. Turns out the word makes an excellent title because of the multiple definitions it encompasses, so the meaning of the title is layered. You can take a look at it here.
