What a lousy way to start the working week! Thankfully, I've only got to be in camp for one more day this week. I won't continue bemoaning my pitiful existence in camp, because I've done that enough already in past entries. I've been reading The Story Of French, and it's got me inspired. The evolution of French as a language is pretty fascinating. Just imagine, this evolution applies to every language that existed, exists, will exist. I guess something good came out of the Tower of Babel; it made the linguistic landscape infinitely more fascinating. My particular interest lies in the Romance languages that descend from Vulgar Latin, but in general I find the whole language family tree thing cool. I have a thing for hierarchies and patterned order. Haha! Renewing my aspiration to acquire a working knowledge of Latin, and some understanding of the more obscure Romance languages. I don't expect to become fluent in more than four or five languages in my lifetime. I'm not that gifted a linguist!
