Thank You Day/Aloha Day/International Youth Day
2007-08-12 @ 10:11 p.m.

Learning about beautitudes in YE, and today's topic was "Blessed are the meek". What I took away from the whole thing was the recognition that I'm a creature of comfort, in every sense of the word. It's not so much that I can't withstand adversity; I'll do just about anything to avoid it. I mean, my idea of suffering is eating out at a hawker centre. That's said only partially in jest! Ironically, that's exactly where I had my dinner. In Brickworks, no less, where my dad spotted a dead rat just outside the hawker centre. Like I said to him, what better place to find a slice of the Third World in Singapore than at hawker centres? God only knows where all those tourists are eating. Probably at all the renovated hawker centres, meaning they've been sanitised for mass tourist consumption. I heartily approve actually. I'm not one of those who buy the whole dirtier-equals-tastier notion...
