Escaped the night phase of setting up drill, thanks to my lesson. I think it's true that enlistment dumbs people down. A trainee dropped an antenna today. No casualties, but the whole incident could have been avoided had he taken the trouble to observe that the antenna could be rotated to be more easily removed. A bit of common sense, please? Some of the older ladies in class were complaining about the new lecturer. She's a Filipina, so her accent is a wee bit difficult to comprehend, but nothing that you don't get used to after a while. Instead of asking her to speak louder, they asked one of the staff members if she could be given a microphone and bitched behind her back about her being too soft. The lecturer's a real sweet lady, so she was basically getting bullied by the class. We've all met them during our schooling years, those teachers who can't control the class because they're too soft-spoken and sweet-tempered. What I found most ridiculous was how some of them expected even the essay content to be clearly spelt out to them. Seriously, they're all adults, older than me, and if I'm mature enough to handle some self-directed learning, surely they are too? Being busy is not an excuse, because everyone's always busy in Singapore. Thankfully, there are still sensible people in the class, to whom I just happened to be seated in close proximity. There is hope for the human race after all... |
