Asian Boys Vol. 3: Happy Endings was very good! I've never seen the other two plays in Alfian Sa'at's trilogy, but I think I would like to now, if they're staged again. I think is the first time I've ever heard a distinction being made between being a couple and being in a relationship, and it totally makes such obvious sense once you start thinking about. Out of the entire cast, I think Karen Tan was the best. Robin Goh and Ben Xiao were very likeable as the older and younger Chris respectively. I think the second half after the intermission was the better one. The earlier scenes felt a bit too scripted, although the compression of Chris and Samuel's relationship worked very well. The device of having each character enter the scene through a specific door was also clever, and it made for a great final scene, with the characters standing with their younger selves, fluttering opened books like wings. It's watching people in plays like this that makes me feel like getting involved in theatre myself. Maybe in university. Eugene wanted to see if he could get a copy of Peculiar Chris, the novel on which the first half of the play's based, but there was a crowd at the table, so we hurried off to Bugis Junction so that Ben Woon and I could get Rui Min's present. Got lost trying to get to her place, but we were still one of the first few people to arrive! Met some people I haven't seen since we graduated, which was nice. It's the little things that we'll remember in time to come.
