Have been reading Flesh And Blood, and I'm almost done with it. My only gripe is that its prose reads too much like something from A Home At The End Of The World or The Hours, as if this was some sort of meta-novel in three parts. Not that the writing isn't good, or that Michael Cunningham can't evoke sympathy for his characters, I just would like to see a bit more variation in style. In other news, they're looking for one person to go to Taiwan next month with the cadets. This time around, I'm quite safe, since they just need one person and I'm studying, it really defies even military logic to make me the one to go. By the way, does anyone know a place, preferably in the western area, that serves affordable but decent food? Am trying to find a place to have dinner on Friday with other impoverished wallets, although I realised my GST credits just arrived, so that's $100 to blow this week before my pay arrives. I think it's going to be very exciting to see how I survive in the UK on my scholarship allowance. I really should find a part-time job after NS that pays well... |
