World Environment Day/Gingerbread Day
2007-06-05 @ 11:21 p.m.

Volunteered to be the second sentry because that's the one that gets to avoid the staff parade, which is one of the stupider bits of guard duty that I can do without. Have probably busted my SMS quota for the month, which always happens when I do guard duty because I get so bored and there's nothing I can talk about with my equally bored colleagues, so I end up messaging the people outside of camp that I can talk to. Had an amusing conversation with Ka Tsai on life in the army. The poor boy sounds stressed. It's just as well that everything'll be over and done with by the end of this year. I think what you lose most during NS is your dignity. It doesn't matter if you become man, specialist or officer, at some point in those two years, you've had to sacrifice your pride and dignity. You'll be lucky if that's the only thing you have to lose. Today was overwhelming, emotionally speaking. Mostly frustration with the irresponsibility of others despite repeated cautionings and injunctions, but it was so bad that I wanted to either bash someone's brains out or crumple in one corner and cry. That's how lousy I was feeling. Thank God for friends like Shirley, who totally understands where I'm coming from. People are so undependable that it really make me wonder sometimes why I bother trying to be unlike them...
