Reading Venetian Stories, I'm more convinced than ever that I have to visit that city. There's a subtle hint of melancholy running through the stories, which I find very appealing. It's the same reason I like rainy days, although the effect is somewhat spoilt in Singapore by the urban landscape. Was kind of tired the whole day, despite getting an hour's more sleep than usual last night. Had my first direct encounter with the new specialist trainees, and they're a mixed bunch. I sympathise with their course sergeant (who's actually one of my former trainees) when he says that he can't really control them. Something along the lines of them being older than him (he's from a JC batch, they're a polytechnic batch) and him being generally a bit too nice. I just hope I don't get stuck with a bunch of jerks during the summary exercise. That would be really unbearable...
