Calendar Day/Obnoxious Day/Children's Day/Flag Day (Mexico)
2007-02-24 @ 10:46 p.m.

Started reading Forster's Aspects Of The Novel while I was at the Holland Village Starbucks with Shirley. It's eminently readable, and bound to irritate stuffy literary critics. That's probably why I like it so much. Shirley asked if I'm really sure I want to be a teacher. The instinctive answer is obviously yes. The real answer gets more complicated. Some days I do, so much so that I can't imagine transferring to HQ during my bond period. I always thought those teachers who rejected offers of promotion just so that they could continue doing real teaching were admirable. Then there are days when all I really want is a nice house and car, and you really don't get those things on a teacher's salary. Of course, there are moments when I think what I really should be is your next pop star, but there's a long way to that. Talent with no packaging won't sell these days. Unless you're on MySpace, but even that's becoming commercialised as MTV invades. (Witness the number of artistes with official MySpace profiles!) So yeah, it's a complicated matter. I kind of agree with those people who say that the age at which most people take up scholarships is too young because they can't be expected to decide the next decade of their life at that point. Just look at me. I'll be in my mid-20s by the time I finish my first degree. That's freaking old! Had yusheng with my cell at this restaurant. Not bad, although I could barely taste the salmon. I like salmon! I think if I ever step into The CaffeBar again I'll have the roulade of salmon. Haha...
