Finished reading Kee Thuan Chye's We Could **** You Mr. Birch yesterday. That was after reading 1984 Here And Now and The Big Purge. The latter two are thematically similar, dealing with the subject of race relations in Malaysia. The third play goes in a slightly different direction, highlighting how history can be reconstructed according to our agendas, while still looking at the tensions bred by colonialism. In short, not really my kind of reading! It's just one of those random finds at the library. I like my drama light and witty, like Oscar Wilde. If the subject has to be serious, then the staging must be superb, like Dead Certain was. Never having seen Kee's texts in performance, I can hardly judge by the second criterion. Have been visiting the library fairly often of late, which is all part of the periodic swing between reading what I own and what I borrow. It's one of my bad habits to leave books half-read and come back to them months later. So if I finish something in one go, it must be pretty damn good! Today, I finished Michael Hanlon's The Science Of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy and T.S. Eliot's The Cocktail Party. Liked them both! Now I'm reading some poetry...
