Cheese Day/Stay Young Forever Day/Polar Bear Festival (Alaska)/Winterfest (Michigan)/Perch Festival (Michigan)
2007-01-20 @ 10:44 p.m.

Met up with Eugene and Thong for lunch at the Border's bistro, where we happened to run into Li Jun and her mum. It was quite funny, because while we were waiting to be seated, Eugene remarked that someone in the bistro looked like her. Then less than a minute later, I looked up and realised that it was her. Then we all ended up making eye contact and waving to each other. Haha! I bought two books by Tom Perrotta: Joe College and Little Children. Probably should have waited another week or so, or at least until I'd printed out some of those vouchers that Borders keeps sending these days. Oh well! Couldn't resist, especially after seeing the trailer for Little Children. I'd been thinking about getting the book, but the movie trailer convinced me. Now I need to decide if I should buy the Picador edition of Notes From A Scandal, which is black, and would therefore look nice beside my Michael Cunningham novels from Picador, which are white. I really think all books should just be published in one standard size! We also watched The Painted Veil today. Was initially somewhat reluctant, but Thong was quite adamant about it, despite there being perfectly sensible alternatives like Harsh Times, Pan's Labyrinth, Perfume, and The Illusionist. Ultimately, it boiled down to there not being any other movies showing in the early afternoon. I have to admit that the film was better than I'd expected. Was really touched by how the love story between the lead characters developed. I think Naomi Watts really looked like Jorja Fox in this movie.
