Watched Christmas With The Kranks today, and I found myself wondering if the first half of the movie wasn't an indictment of people who are so determined to spread Christmas cheer that they end up stepping on other people's toes. I mean, what is so wrong about wanting to skip Christmas, just once? It's not like the Kranks were trying to do away with the spiritual significance of Christmas. They just wanted out of the commercial carnival it's become. Of course, the whole film eventually degenerates into the predictable warm and fuzzy ending, so you feel like you're a jerk if you so much as think about skipping Christmas yourself. Well, to be frank, I pretty much did that this year. Oh, I gave gifts, had a fake tree (which has been thrown away so maybe next year we can get a real fir), but on Christmas Day, I didn't do anything particularly festive.
