We got upgraded to Raffles Class! Sweet stuff. The Boeing 777-300ER has the newest furnishings in the SIA fleet, and man, Raffles Class is wicked! (Can you imagine what First Class is like? Haha...) I had veal fillet for lunch, and that was after a salmon salad. You got to love the special treatment lavished on you. I watched Crash, and totally didn't get why my dad doesn't understand it. It's a very powerful film. It doesn't say a lot that hasn't been said before about racism and prejudice, but in its interweaving of the Los Angeles characters' lives, it really makes an impact. Some bits are even funny, like the Persian man who keeps shouting at the guy who tells him that he's repaired his lock, but what he really needs is a new door. I loved the opening lines: "It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something." Great stuff. Would make a brilliant opening for a novel actually. Anyway, despite saying that I wouldn't write something new for the NUS competition, I did. I think it's not bad, borrows a bit from the Marquis de Sade, but that's just me being influenced by my current reading of Babel Tower. Now to pick the other pieces to send in... |
