As I'm striving to be a complete intellectual poseur at the moment, I'm bringing Vikram Seth's The Golden Gate to camp tomorrow, even though there's absolutely no way I could have time to read it. That's ignoring the fact that I'm bring the Auden volume along too. I'm mildly irrational that way. Like how I brought three books out of the house today, albeit two were slim volumes, and I'd only finished one by the time I got home. (I just finished the second! Yes, if you must know, it was Jason Hahn's second book.) Now I was just wondering, what exactly does it take to get noticed as a Singaporean blogger? Am I not entertaining enough? Admittedly, this is usually a very dry, boring place. Still, don't I have my moments of pithy wit and insight? Maybe what I need is a healthy dose of consistency. Some advertising couldn't hurt! NS isn't very dramatic though, unless you discount all the things that go bump in the store. (No, I'm not just talking about the rats that infest the damn place.) Oh yeah, that new t-shirt I got during the John Little sale? It definitely makes me look good. The faded denim jeans I bought are a little tight though. I think the cutting's different from what I normally buy. Got a sweater from Baleno yesterday in preparation for my HK trip in December. Let's just say it's a very flattering fit. Today I met up with my three best buddies from BMT, plus my assigned buddy, who used to drive me nuts. All I can say is that time is a great lubricant for social intercourse. We were at K-Box. Not a huge fan of the place myself, but I don't mind. It's fun to see and hear people belt out Mandopop tunes with such gusto! In case any of them are actually reading this, I mean that in a totally positive way, so don't get mad at me. We caught up with each other's NS lives, or in the case of Chris, the trials of life as a Medicine student at NUS. It's so weird to know so many future doctors! I hope all of them specialise in different fields, so that I'll always have someone to go to, whatever happens to me in the future. (Touch wood!) It must take either enormous interest or complete devotion to one's parents' wishes to embark on a path that takes up at least half a dozen years of your life. I haven't even gone for my three years of undergraduate studies and I already wonder how I'm going to last that long! To think that if I hadn't a mind of my own, that's probably where I would have ended up myself. I honestly think my dad's never quite got over my decision to ditch a Science stream education, even if it was for a cool $2000, which if I may add, I had a lot of fun spending. He always claims otherwise though, but I can just tell. |
