I've finally put my finger on what irritates people about this guy I know. He makes people feel bad for not being as rigidly disciplined as himself. It's like having a holier-than-thou-attitude, but with the substance to back it up, which just makes things worse! Just one more person I've met during NS who rubs people the wrong way. How people respond to you during NS is a rather accurate barometer by which the wider world's response to you can be measured. In a way, I'm grateful for NS, in that it made me realise just how well-adjusted I am, compared to lots of people my age. What I'm trying to say here is that NS didn't build my character; it merely showed me the strength of character I already possessed without having realised it.
