Trudged all the way to town in my uniform just to buy Vaish's present. I hope you appreciate that! Okay, so it was the last day of the summer sale, which meant 20% off my purchases, and I really wanted to buy some books. Retail therapy! Settled for Nabokov's The Real Life Of Sebastian Knight and Lolita: A Screenplay, and Sade's The Misfortunes Of Virtue. I briefly flirted with the idea of buying all six of the original Dune novels. My heart said yes, my pocket said no. Started reading Lolita: A Screenplay on the train to Sembawang, where the rest of the family was having dinner. (Incidentally, don't you find it incredibly rude when people talk about you and don't even bother to ensure you don't realise they're talking about you?) Anyway, the book's great, and now I feel like I should buy Lolita and read it till the end, what with my new enthusiasm for all things Nabokov. After my next paycheck, perhaps?
