Narrowly escaped being made to do this weekend's guard duty, but it's such a complicated (and ultimately insignificant to anyone other than myself) story that I won't bore you with the details. Was reading the first chapter of A Laodicean earlier today, and the description of George Somerset there struck me as being remarkably similar to the description of Clym Yeobright in The Return Of The Native. Talk about thematic obsession in Hardy's work. Like how Hardy's heroines tend to exhibit a general set of characteristics, albeit in differing combinations. I really like Thomas Hardy, in case you were wondering. He's the only classic author whose work I seriously read outside of the classroom. (George Eliot is far too didactic for my liking.) CCIS test today went great, even though most of us have very vague ideas about the workings of the system. Go figure... |
