Bunsen Burner Day
2006-03-31 @ 11:04 p.m.

Interview was conducted by a former RJC student. What tipped me off was her recognition of Mr Purvis's name. Turns out he never actually taught her, he just came and yelled at her lecture group once. The interview was very informal and relaxed. Some of the questions stumped me though, like when she asked about any trials I'd faced and overcome in my life. The fact is that the better part of my life can be described as a charmed existence. I (mostly) got what I wanted, and I (mostly) didn't have to fight tooth and nail for it either. So I made out the last few months of JC to be more stressful than they'd really been. Embellishing the truth? Yes. Lying? Only if we're being puritanical. (Well, it is the season of Lent.) What made me happy about the interview was that she said she could tell I was very passionate about literature and teaching. Hardly anyone takes me seriously when I say I want to teach, which is mildly annoying because I'm quite serious about it. Whatever I do, ultimately I see myself returning to literature as a teacher. (More a Mr Batchelor than a Mr Purvis really...) In any case, I hope someone offers me a scholarship eventually. As I was complaining to Yumun, it sucks to be a guy at this age.
