Good news about the guard duty thing! My platoon isn't scheduled for weekend guard duty at all in April. With a bit of luck, the May slots will also get taken up. This is great, since I'm leading worship twice in April and this makes it easier to plan my practices. I'm in the midst of a four-hour lesson, which I've actually completed. So I have slightly over an hour to kill. I've started writing an Easter poem, which is hard work because I don't want to descend into a litany of phrases lifted straight out of the Bible, which is certainly the easiest way to go about writing a poem with a religious theme. I've only got six lines down so far, but I think there's potential for it to be something that isn't trite or hackneyed. (I'll try my best at least.) I'm sticking to hexasyllabic lines, as I find the compression compels greater precision of expression and choice of diction. I'm going to get an off pass later for tomorrow's FIREfly interview, and I'm hoping to be let off tonight after dinner. I really don't see the point of keeping me here when I'll be having the interview on Friday morning anyway. Then again, a lot of things don't make sense to me in this place. I read an interesting post by Alfian Sa'at recently. You can take a look here. Any comments on that, my fellow NSFs? |
