Radio Day/Hi Neighbor Day
2005-12-11 @ 10:19 p.m.

I'm still wondering if a recruit ever thinks about the fact that he's essentially sworn away his life for Singapore during the enlistment ceremony. I can empathise with Melvyn Tan, the pianist who "ran away" from NS to become a famous pianist. Everyone has their own dreams they want to realise, and it's hard to feel passionate about a piece of land that you just happened to be born on. I suppose it's like your family. You don't get to choose your family, so you just live with your lot. When I have kids, I think I'll relocate with my future wife to Australia or Canada, just so that my kids can be born on foreign soil and have a second option, a way out of this sheltered garden. (On a random note, that's two allusions in two days!) Had introductions to warm-ups and 5BX, and I'm freaking unfit! Food still of decent quality. Come on, this is the army. So many people complain about the food as if they're here on some package tour and the buffet was a letdown. What are they thinking?
