Cocoa Day/Take Your Ass For A Walk Day/Santa Lucia Day
2005-12-13 @ 10:23 p.m.

Did not get screwed by our DI today, which is a good thing. Have decided that in terms of temperament, I'm fundamentally suited for NS, because I'm acquiescent. A recipe for getting by, if not necessarily excelling. Can't really say I hate it here at the moment. It's only for three months anyway, then I can buck the trend and aim to go anywhere but SISPEC and OCS. (Actually, I might try my darnedest to get posted to MDC. It's based at the camp nearest to my home, and I'll get to do something I enjoy: perform. As for the associations people commonly make with MDC, screw them and their narrow-mindedness.) Learnt lots of basic military stuff over the past few days, like drills and how to tie boots and pack stuff. I'm sure you don't want the details. Have noticed that I'm quite unsentimental about the mainland. It all just goes out of your mind really, unless you choose to torture yourself by thinking about everything you've left behind. Maybe I'd feel worse if I didn't have my handphone with me, or if no one replied to my SMSes. Lent my spare battery to my bunk buddy, so hopefully he uses it prudently and leaves some of the juice for me! Otherwise, it's no contact with the mainland until the day before Christmas Eve.
