Dad's company had a screening of the latest Harry Potter movie, which I don't think was particularly good. I appreciate the difficulties of condensing a thick book into a three-hour movie, but really, the events in the movie certainly didn't feel like they'd lasted for a whole term at Hogwart's. The movie felt liked it'd been edited in a very choppy fashion. In any case, I think the whole Harry Potter craze is a lot of hype. Give me C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien any day, or even Philip Pullman, who makes a nice counterpoint to Lewis. No, I have not read any of the Harry Potter books, which is why I'm not slagging them more, and no, I don't really want to read them. Maybe when the last book comes out, and they start selling it in box sets, then I'll read it. Have I mentioned that David Lodge's Language Of Fiction is very readable for a book of literary criticism? I highly recommend it.
