I took one look at the History paper today, and I wanted to laugh. There was a question on China! So my sympathies to all the people who were banking on doing the crisis of communism question, but who didn't study China because it came out last year. I (am trying to pretend that I) feel your pain. Thought I did reasonably okay for the paper, so a B is probably quite secure. It feels good not to have to cram for a paper tomorrow for once. Was thinking of trying to read David Lodge's Language Of Fiction, but academic stuff, even about literature, doesn't seem to sit very well with me at present. I need to expand my French vocabulary, especially idiomatic expressions. It's very trying to read a French novel if you don't fully understand every other sentence. Have not finished reading Metroland, and I've decided that Barnes is really quite an ordinary author after all, at least from what I've read so far. Hoban, on the other hand, is brilliant. Ishiguro's first three novels are variations on the same theme, just that each subsequent novel's longer than the last. Read another chapter of The Unconsoled a few days ago, so I'm hoping to find something new this time. There you have it. The three authors of contemporary literature that I follow with more than mild interest. Her Name Was Lola doesn't sound like a book that's worth doing for 'S' Paper, does it? I'm not looking forward to re-reading Heart Of Darkness for next Wednesday... |
