Mole Day/Mother-in-law's Day
2005-10-23 @ 10:07 p.m.

If you examine how the Terror developed in post-1789 France, you'll realise that politics has always been a dirty, back-biting business. Should "Jacobin" be pronounced in the French manner, à la "Girondin"? I've always wondered about that. Have decided to be even more disciplined about studying, otherwise I'll never finish History and Economics before the 'A' Levels. That was a distinctly disconcerting thought. The Lemon Table is a very good book! If I weren't already doing Love, Etc. for 'S' Paper, I'd probably prepare The Lemon Table in case a question came up on short stories. In any case, have decided to study Sherwood Anderson's Winesburg, Ohio along with Mansfield's work. It appears that Anderson was a very important influence on the subsequent development of the short story in American literature. (Confession time! I only bought Winesburg, Ohio because it was $5 at some place in Bras Basah, not because I particularly cared about its author.) By the way, can someone explain to me why the Catholic clergy has to be celibate?
