Checked the answer for my MCQ paper, and I barely passed, no thanks to a combination of carelessness and ignorance. Resigned to getting ABCD or worse this time round. Visited the National Library for the second time, and picked up an anthology of poetry edited by Harold Bloom. Very thick, very intimidating, but potentially very useful as an introduction to six centuries of English poetry. Also picked up a thrashy sci-fi novel and a book of French phrases. Avoided the Teach Yourself Italian books because I want to concentrate on picking up a little Latin first, since Italian looks really easy, like French. My Civilization III game ended just now, much earlier than I'd expected. I didn't realise I'd actually toggled cultural victories, so Babylon kicked everyone's ass because my cultural victory limit for a single city was freaking low. Like 5000, when the default was 20000. So I've started a new game, but playing as the Iroquois instead of the Greeks. I like Agricultural civilisations best. Easier to expand because they generate extra food in the main city tile. Shan't bore you further, but suffice to say Economics was depressing. The "dismal science" indeed... |
