Watermelon Day
2005-08-03 @ 9:46 p.m.

Not-so-major announcement: I've changed my mobile subscription plan, so now I have free incoming calls, but 200 less SMSes. So if you need to tell me something and you don't mind calling, I'd rather you do that from now on. Funny coincidence yesterday in the train. Was with Tsz San and Vivien, when both their handphones rang at the same time. They answered, and said "Hello" at exactly the same moment. The funniest thing would have been if both of them had started speaking to their caller in Cantonese. I'm not very encouraged by the fact that one person applied to read English at Cambridge last year, and he was rejected. Am frustrated by the revision tutorial for first order differential equations, because I can't seem to get the correct answer, assuming the answer provided is correct. I think I'll just forget about it for now and read Silas Marner instead. How's this for a factoid? I got a Silver for NAPFA when I was in Primary 6 because I couldn't do enough sit-ups. That really is ironic.

I feel like a lazy arse right now. If I intend to be a slacker and do six passage-/poem-based questions come next month, all I'm going to do is re-read all my six texts. Add in the fact that I'm sort of on a roll as far as Mr Tay's subject is concerned (except for the freaking differential equations revision tutorial), I have no excuse not to be studying for Economics and History. How much of either have I done, you rightfully ask. I politely decline to answer, and shamefacedly return to my room to hole up with my copy of Silas Marner. By the way, I've finally finished Heart Of Darkness. I even read The Congo Diary for fun. I think the part where Conrad makes a note about his first encounter with a ripe pineapple is insanely funny! Anyway, I've decided I only like the second half of the book, which seems to me to move faster than the repetitive first half. Eugene tells me that the bathetic denouement is deliberate. I am somewhat sceptical, even if it does link back to the idea of farcical colonialism. Obviously I'm not going to criticise Conrad in class. That's suicidal, and I believe it shouldn't be. I am not a believer in the unassailable genius of the author. Heresy, he would probably cry.
