Lollipop Day/Moon Day
2005-07-20 @ 10:07 p.m.

Mr Stevens, the narrator of The Remains Of The Day, is one of the most irritating characters I've encountered in literature. I know Ishiguro intended the character to be an unreliable narrator, but of the three Ishiguro novels I've read so far, this novel has the most dislikeable narrator, for me anyway. The SC dance concert was nice, although I have very little patience for ballet per se. Yes, I do prefer modern dance, to answer the question I posed to the students at Swiss Cottage during their oral practice. I liked their first piece best, partly because the backing music was a Maksim track. Tim thinks the piano is too high and piercing. Liling was telling me not to compare Dance Night to SC's concert, but I think they cater to different audiences really. I thought yesterday's performance was too kiddish at times. Granted, there were primary school kids dancing in some of the items. Shu En, if you see this, remind me to pay you the money for Dexter's ticket! I've decided that I don't really care if I fail my NAPFA next week, which I am retaking on Thursday since it's pretty late in the afternoon and my medical appointment at CMPB shouldn't take that long. The reason I don't care is that I can always retake it again at Toa Payoh Stadium, right until a few weeks before my enlistment actually. There was even a question in the FAQ at the MIW website about whether one could take NAPFA in the morning, despite being scheduled for PTP in the afternoon. The answer is yes, although that strikes me as a really bizarre thing to want to do.

Doing a revision tutorial at the moment, because I forgot to take my TYS home so I can't start on Tutorial S5. We got back our English papers today, and I've finally clawed my way back to an A. Ironically, the Hardy question was better done than the Frost question. It was a stroke of good fortune that Mr Batchelor marked the drama question for the practical criticism. I'm annoyed about my B3 for GP though, because my essay was regraded drastically by the marker. I think I should talk to Mr Purvis about it tomorrow, because I don't agree with the marker's comment that I went off on a tangent. Personally, I thought the whole essay proceeded reasonably logically to its conclusion, but of course, I could be gravely mistaken. Perhaps I was being too oblique? Incidentally, I feel tempted to tell Mr Purvis about the poem on QLRS, since it happens to be the one that Mrs Perry also liked when she saw it. By the way, tonight's CSI episode was one of Season 5's best. Everyone was being so bitchy, but it was nicely done in a minimalist sort of way. The only problem was today's storylines were a bit too choppy. Looking forward to the season finale, directed by Quentin Tarantino!
