Father's Day/Butterfly Day
2005-06-19 @ 11:30 p.m.

Just came back from the Phua Chu Kang musical. If you know me well enough, you'll have figured out by now that PCK is definitely not my kind of thing. For the record, I think it's crass and exaggerated. If PCK is supposed to be representative of my country, I want out of here, so help me God. The way I see it, it's all very well to divide Singaporeans into heartlanders and cosmopolitans, but that's no excuse for the former to descend to boorishness, nor for the latter to descend to snobbery. (Technically, I guess it makes more sense to write "ascend to snobbery", but "descend" conveys the point better. I think.) Anyway, to quote my own SMS to Eugene on the PCK musical: "Very much reflective of Singapore. Third-class content in first-class packaging." Enough said. Incidentally, Eugene is one of the few RJC people who reply to SMSes promptly. Either that, or the majority don't give a damn in the first place. Being somewhat prone to cynicism, you can guess what I think.
