B for English, which is one of those things that sucks at that moment, and then just gets filed away as another of life's episode. Since we're on the subject of English, I've more or less decided to switch from Hardy's prose to his poetry. As much as I hesitate to dismiss Gunn, because his earlier work is a fascinating amalgamation of traditional metre and modern diction, I know I'll enjoy Hardy more. To quote Mr Purvis, there is something "quaint" about Hardyan diction that is very endearing, what with all the free verse floating around these days. Not that I have anything against free verse per se, I just agree with the Frostian perspective that writing with poetic structures in mind takes greater skill. As for what to compare with Cunningham's novel which I'm quite keen to do, I'll take a look at the list Mr Purvis made as a starting point. I haven't finished writing my valedictory speech, I haven't done any of the tutorials for Mathematics that I wanted to get through, and the only good thing about tomorrow is hunting for new clothes (for SYF) and POP! practice for vocalists. In the battle between clothes, music and books, clothes win for the month of April. Maybe I can convince my dad to buy me the books I need for 'S' Paper? |
