With all due respect to the Catholics out there, the Pope should just make up his mind whether he's coming or going. It's not like he doesn't believe he's going to a better place, so why hang on and paralyse the Catholic community? It's quite plain to see that Pope John Paul II is incapable of fulfilling his office in his current state, and a new pope cannot take over while he's still alive. So if he's hanging on because he wants to be with his flock, he really ought to move on. That's just my personal opinion anyway. Made three stunning discoveries today. The first was when I bought Sting's Brand New Day. Desert Rose is the pop song I've always wanted to hear. Prior to this, Delerium's Love was the only song that came close. Just for that one song, it was worth paying for the album. Also bought the special edition of Avril Lavigne's Under My Skin, and say what you want about her, I like it loads. It's more listenable than Let Go in my opinion, and I find that I like My Happy Ending less now that I've heard the rest of the album. I think Take Me Away and Together provide better ear candy, even if My Happy Ending does sound marginally more sincere lyrics-wise. The second discovery isn't much of a discovery, to be honest. Thomas Hardy is a bloody genius! I do agree with Eugene Oh that his poetry is as good as, if not better than, his prose. I read the first dozen poems of the anthology and I was blown away. Seriously considering ditching Hardy's prose and Gunn's poetry in favour of Hardy's poetry for English 'S'. Of course, that raises the question of what I compare Cunningham's book to, and what I compare Hardy's poetry to. Must make decision soon, so that I can buy books and start analysing them. Oh, Christopher Hampton, the guy who wrote Dangerous Liaisons, writes very interesting drama. Just read Total Eclipse, a play about the relationship between Rimbaud and Verlaine, and I'm completely bowled over. I would give (almost) anything to be able to write like these people. The third discovery is that Gmail just doubled each account's storage capacity! Hotmail and Yahoo! look like they're losing the e-mail wars at the moment. (Please don't let Gmail ever start charging for their accounts!) |
