Bunsen Burner Day
2005-03-31 @ 9:56 p.m.

Am finally being summoned for the NS medical examination. Yes, Singapore, you can have two years of my life because you think we're important enough to be attacked, but it's okay, as long as you give me the money to study overseas, and ultimately run away from this island. Singapore needs a welfare system, laziness be damned. I hear the remainder of the scholarship money has been credited to our bank accounts, so I foresee a Kinokuniya/Borders spending spree next month. Possibly That CD Shop too, if I find stuff I want. Oh yeah! The three Amethystium CDs, which I've put off buying for a long time, and Era's The Mass. That's it, I'm definitely heading down to Orchard in the near future. School today was good largely because I stayed awake, thanks to the nearly nine hours of sleep I got. The only annoying bit is the Economics TYS question my group has to present on Monday, which is thankfully stuff we've already gone through in lectures and tutorials. Have lots of stuff to do, but I can't figure out what to start on first. Logically, the presentation's the most pressing, but writing my French valedictory speech is more interesting, and the tutorial on numerical methods is more satisfying. Other alternatives include starting on the first chapter of Wheelock's Latin for the umpteenth time and eating ice-cream. Alas, tonight has been reduced to such frivolity. Sort of like today's Writers Inc meeting, which would have been a complete waste of time but for the fact that I finished the Alan Bennett drama anthology during that time. Bennett proves to be an entertaining read, being soaked in irony like most of the English. Now on to Christopher Hampton. Incidentally, I probably should have mentioned this earlier, but the SAJC girl who won the Angus Ross Prize is damn annoying. Someone should wipe that grin off her face for her. Don't you find it ironic/hypocritical that the only thing a divinity student like her has read is Dan Brown? I look forward to reading a stunning work of literature from this girl who's found her own personal style without having to read anything of merit. Bravo. This is the state of education in Singapore with regards to English. I would feel sad if this were any country other than Singapore.
