I did the recreative writing option for this morning's paper, which was quite fun, because I didn't think a lot. I do believe Mr Purvis read what we wrote almost immediately after the paper ended, because when he passed me in the corridor on his way to a staff meeting, he made a reference to meditation. I was sitting on the floor outside SR8 trying to concentrate on Dan's notes, so a bit of adjustment to my posture and yes, I could have been meditating. The point is that I wrote something in my recreative piece about the sense of calm created by meditation. Yeah, so I wouldn't be surprised if he looked over all our pieces out of curiosity. Gave up studying for History about one hour before the paper, so I wrote a poem, which had a line about looking back with "all the relief of hindsight". How true! All four of the questions were about things that I hadn't explicitly considered in the course of my last-minute cramming, so I basically winged it with whatever I could remember. The gaps in my knowledge are quite appalling, like how the Bolsheviks seized power in October 1917. I just glossed over the whole thing with vague statements about opportunism. I actually finished with five minutes to spare, because I really ran out of things to say. Hopefully, I won't do as badly as I thought I would. Then it rained after the paper, so we couldn't go out immediately. Ended up in Borders with Eugene Oh, Thong, Vaish and Vivien, where I found some Frank Herbert books that I'm going to buy tomorrow. My bank account is further depleted! Bought O at HMV, which is quite unlike anything I've ever listened to, but the imperfection of Damien Rice's voice grows on you after a while. Two book titles that cracked me up in Borders: The Moral Obligation To Be Intelligent and The Average Human. The former's a book of essays, while the latter's a work of fiction. Guess which one I suggested for my birthday? Haha! So our random sojourn in Orchard Road concluded with Eugene, Thong, Vaish and I sitting in Spinelli's, discussing our ideal significant others. Not a bad way to end Common Test 1 really... |
