Department Store Day
2005-03-12 @ 11:35 p.m.

For once, I didn't freeze during Guitar, because I wisely set between the two air-conditioner vents. Had to go to church for a meeting about tomorrow's Bible study, so I didn't go home after practice. Stayed in school for about four hours after it ended, doing differentiation in SR10. Sophia, you still have my black pen, which happens to be very new, and which I also happen to need because now I only have one pen left! The recent article in The Straits Times on the rising number of AIDS cases has incited much controversy among the Humanities students, which is hardly surprising given that a good number of us are sympathetic to homosexuals. Yes, I do think there's a difference between accepting a homosexual as a friend, and condoning the lifestyle. Then again, considering I wrote an essay arguing for same-sex marriage on Wednesday, it's hardly surprising that I find the comments in the article narrow-minded and bigoted. Without going into a protracted discussion of my views on homosexuality and society, suffice to say that not condoning the lifestyle should not equate to making sweeping judgemental statements about the community. There is a fine line between upholding your own personal code of morality and being grossly unjust, and I think the minister's comments crossed the line. Why is it always about the gays in Singapore anyway? Surely there are lesbians here too? Why is the government prepared to build a casino but not to hold a gay party? Doesn't that just smack of double standards?
