Retail therapy! I just bought a new shirt for tomorrow's concert, because surprisingly, despite the large number of black t-shirts I own, I don't have a black shirt. I also bought two pairs of jeans, cheap but comfortable. One even comes with a belt that might flout school rules if I wear it tomorrow, but I'll try it anyway. Oh, wait a minute. We don't have rules; we have a code of conduct. I'd like to see Mr Chin convince me that the colour of my hair or the type of belt I wear is at all relevant to upholding the code of conduct. If hair colour is anything to go buy, some teachers should be issued white slips then. So don't tell me off for the colour of my hair. Not that I have been told off, just that hair colour was one of those stupid rules that I was never convinced actually mattered, along with the colour of your shoes. Heck, let's do away with uniforms! If polytechnic students don't have uniforms and a significant number of them are our age, why can't we ditch our white shirts and trousers or white blouses and green skirts? Just another of those things... For the first time ever, I actually enjoyed a CWC meeting. Maybe it's because I like listening to Mr Purvis talk. He is remarkably quotable at times. Like this: "Creative writing's a kind of Cinderella activity. Now I want Cinderella to go to the ball." Now compare that to my blank response when he asked for my opinion on everything he'd just said: "Good." How's that for a succint response? I wasn't sure whether to sound enthusiastic, because I didn't want to tread on anyone's toes at that moment. I'm glad he's taken over from Ms Ho though. I feel more liberated already. Anyway, he's realised that a lot of us wish he'd been here in 2004. Read on for a tale of coincidences. Mr Purvis was in a bookstore in Hay-on-Wye, one of more than two dozen in the area, he found a copy Those Of Us Who Loved Her, about the men in George Eliot's life. Guess who the book belonged to? Ho Poh Fun. Apparently, she wasn't very impressed by this coalescing of circumstances, culminating in Mr Purvis owning a book she'd thrown away. Then we had to discuss stuff for CCA Feste, and we somehow got around to changing the name of CWC. The current hot pick is Ink, or something like that, which I think is really awful. Literati sounds better, and I can't understand how Kai Min can think it sounds like an Italian car brand. Thong and I were mangling titles of literary classics, just to see Shirin cringe in that amusing way. Laughed till my face tingled. Still feeling high... |
