Opposites Attract Day/Deck The Halls Day/Buy A Tree Day/DNA Day
2004-12-14 @ 8:51 p.m.

I'm back, as you might have surmised from the flurry of updates. None of you have missed me half as much as you should have. Take a moment to ponder that, because I'm still wondering about the implications of that statement myself. The flight back was very enjoyable, largely due to the fact that we were upgraded to Raffles Class. Allen was on the same flight, which I only realised because he happened to walk past my row of seats. The food in Raffles Class is definitely a cut above Economy. The seats are wider, the entertainment is viewed on a larger screen, and the tableware and cutlery are nicer. Sill, the whole thing just doesn't seem enough to justify the price difference. The jump from Raffles to First Class seems even less worth the expense. I suppose part of the money paid goes towards "purchasing" prestige. Yeah, and I probably should think harder about this from an Economics perspective, but I've got a headache and I still have to wake up early tomorrow for Somethingood. Maybe I should arrange to pick up my new guitar score along the way to Dhoby Ghaut? Will think about it...

I caught two episodes of Will & Grace, I, Robot, and La Finestra Di Fronte. I, Robot was good. It made me want to read Asimov anyway, so that counts for something. La Finestra Di Fronte is an Italian movie which features a gay man, Davide, who also happens to be a killer pastry-maker. The point of the movie is not his sexuality obviously, but about seizing the chance to live the life you dream of living, which he didn't. There's this sad scene where he recounts how he went about warning the Jews in the ghetto that the Germans were coming, but he lost his lover, Simone, as a result. So he's now an old man, and he meets this woman, Giovanna, trapped in a humdrum existence with a loser husband, Filipo, and two kids, Martina and Marco. She has this hot neighbour, Lorenzo, and the two of them have been spying on each other forever. Sadly for them, they don't get to be together. Nope, they don't sleep with each other even once, which is very unusual, this being an Italian movie and all. Ultimately, the woman gets at least part of her dream life, because she gets to work at a bakery, having been tutored by Davide in the fine art of baking. Think big, dream bigger.
