They keep really strange records at the National Archives, like records of compensation to workers for work-related injuries. Using the microfilm machine is damn fun though! You just turn the knob and the thing just flies across the screen in a blur. Very relaxing. There's this shelf full of theses written by NUS History students. The topics some of them choose are hopelessly boring. I guess all the interesting topics were taken up years ago. There's one on the history of Queenstown that's interesting though. Did you know that Holland Village, or at least the surrounding areas, were actually zoned as part of Queenstown New Town? Bet you never thought of that. Neither did most of the long-time residents of Queenstown, according to the researcher. My attachment's okay, I guess, once you get over the boredom sitting in the Reference Room, hunched over lots of paper. I wonder if the woman was shocked to see my ash golden light blond hair? |
