Thanks to Vivien, I managed to get six books today at the warehouse sale for the grand total of $19. (This was after walking aimlessly around for 10 minutes, and then another 10 minutes contemplating sci-fi novels by Alastair Reynolds.) The original price was $25, but there was mysteriously some money left over, so we each got back $6. Anyway, I got Philip Pullman's Sally Lockhart quartet, which was in the "Teen Reading" section, so I'm not being excessively juvenile in my reading tastes. Bought the ones with the old covers, because the new covers do look very kiddish. Imagine switching between Pullman and Pinter. (The alliteration, the alliteration!) (The repetition, the repetition!) Okay, that was stupid. Bought another two books for their très chic covers. One of them's Niven Govinden's We Are The New Romantics, which has a gorgeous cover! (Nodding in agreement with Claudia and Vivien right now, despite Eugene's protests.) Not to mention that it's highly readable, but maybe that's just because this kind of stuff appeals to the mildly insane side of me that this year has brought out. It's the perfect book for Ben in any case, because the lifestyle of the two main characters is distinguished by its sheer hedonism. Did I mention the male character was gay? Definitely Ben's type of book. That said, Ben, you don't have the makings of a hedonist. For starters, you're way too nice, which is good unless you're aiming for hedonism. Oh, and today's workshop bored the hell out of me after a while, because I read everything he went through this morning in Sloman, while riding in the MRT. Have I mentioned that my hair is currently spiked up like it was that day at Sentosa, because I'm too lazy to wash away all the wax? |
