Look Back On Your Life Day/Electricity Day/Change Your Life Day
2004-10-19 @ 11:18 p.m.

I just finished a new poem, but am very upset right now for two very good reasons. One, I spent money on a ticket for 2046 (more on that later), which meant I couldn't buy my hair gel. I may switch to wax actually. Two, I'm rewriting the PW report. It's going swimmingly, something along the pace of my History essays. Only one thing keeps me from going over the edge. I'm getting a faster connection come Thursday! My dad signed up for a 1.5 Gbps connection, because there was a promotional discounted rate for two years' subscription. Haven't figured out what I could use the extra speed for, except maybe hooking up another computer to the network. That way all three of us can surf at the same time, which resolves the perennial issue of who gets to hog the computer.

My classmates think I look "cute" without gelled hair. I don't know whether to laugh or to cry. The next person who calls me cute tomorrow is so dead! School today was the usual, meaning we were slacking. Mr Tay's tutorial was insanely fun! It was like everyone was just high, and tripping our way through the lesson. We spent 10 minutes looking at three questions from our Promotional paper, and the rest of the time was devoted to mirth. Haven't laughed for such an extended length of time in a long while. Come to think of it, our high spirits had their origin in Mr Rollason's cancelled tutorial. Not even the dismal science could fully dampen our spirits with our results.

Went to watch 2046 after school with Shiqi and Thong. If you want my honest opinion, the entire film is an exercise in vanity for Wong Kar Wai. Multiple storylines are threaded together to form an utterly bewildering creation, which is downright soporific at some parts. The cinematography isn't very breathtaking either. There are good shots, like the one of the pen poised over paper, but nothing like the riotous colours of Hero or the spectacle of Vanity Fair, which I must watch now if only for its set and costumes. 2046 took five years to make, yet the whole thing still looks like some deranged old man's fantasy! When you feel that a two hour movie lasted twice as long as it really did, you know it's a bad sign, because time flies when you're having fun. So watch 2046 if you must, but don't say I didn't warn you, and explain it to me if you actually understand the damn thing!
