"Art is good when it springs from necessity. This kind of origin is the guarantee of its value; there is no other." - Angela Carter Here's a brief prelude to this entry. At the risk of rekindling an old debate, does this have any implications for our discussion on opinions? Daniel? Anyone? I skipped another lecture today, but it was on differentiation. The lecturer's still not covering anything I haven't done already, so I just showed up to mark my attendance and left. Ended up studying with Li Jun at the tables outside LT4. It did rain today, about halfway through the lecture. I enjoy watching the rain fall. Always felt tempted to write a poem about the rain, so I have. Just that it's not really approaching the subject of rain in a conventional manner. This poem, On A Tuesday Morning, also has the singular distinction of being my second poem that's written in free verse. Everything else has some sort of underlying order to it. Usually it's just the number of syllables per line, though there is the occasional haiku. Not quite what I had in mind when I started writing after doing the tutorial paper on nuclear arms, but it'll do. I do apologise for being decidedly gloomy and angsty these past few days. No, I'm not about to tell you why, so don't get excited. Nothing that time won't put right eventually. Like I said, it's nothing personal, and it's got nothing to do with the upcoming examinations. On the contrary, I'm being rather flippant about those. Shifting back to the other side of the classroom helped my mood though. Nothing beats insulting Yi-Xun during tutorials to cheer one's spirits! Even if Mr Sowden did glare at me during his tutorial. (Note to Tommy: See? Mr Purvis is right about you.) Plus this side of the class is so much cooler, and I mean temperature-wise, of course. I don't think I'll move back to the other side again. I realise that there's too many people crowding around that corner. Not like over here, where there's often nobody sitting in front of me. Now if I could just get Yi-Xun to move... |
