I was checking my mail about 12 hours ago, when I discovered that the deadline for Lee Tzu Pheng Poetry Award 2004 entries was at 1 pm. I fired off an e-mail entry with Collapsing Into Hollows and Binary. Just entering for the heck of it, I'll laugh if anything actually comes of it. Did you know that the Sketch tool under the Drawing toolbar can create a very realistic signature? You have to use Edit Points to tweak the lines and make them smoother, but the overall effect is quite convincing. My mum thinks that the signature I did on the computer looks like mine in real life. Not bad. How do you sign a electronic entry anyway? Heck, if they reject my entry it's no big deal. I can always enter next year. CAP alumni meeting today lasted until past 6 pm. Shifted from Coffee Bean to Fish & Co. Sadly, I didn't manage to buy a cup of coffee. Have to make up for it on Monday at Holland Village! Didn't eat at Fish & Co. either. So after the meeting, a bunch of us decided to go for a movie. We wanted to watch Hellboy, but Brendan didn't have Singapore dollars, just 100 Polish zlotys. Searched Orchard Road, trying to find a moneychanger who would accept the zlotys, and none would, of course. They were worth S$40 in case you were wondering. It's just that Polish currency is so rare in this part of the world. Finally ended up at Cineleisure, where we learnt that the earliest shows were around 10 pm. So, no movie, but dinner instead. We were joking that we should make a film, Searching For Zlotys. The sequel can be Searching For Dinner. Isn't it ironic that we took so long to find a place to eat, when Cineleisure has all the major fastfood outlets, save MacDonald's? Oh, and I finally bought a new CD today. It's quite disturbing how Mr Purvis and my dad have the same attitude towards fulfilling their children's demands. They both believe in "delayed gratification", which is the exact term both of them use. Okay, but that's not the point. The point is, Era's debut album isn't quite as good as their latest, The Mass, nor either of Lesiëm's albums. Granted, Era uses more creative drum loops than Lesiëm, but their debut album lacks bite and punch. So far, what I've heard fails to impress. I mean, look at Fundamentum on Lesiëm's Mystic Spirit Voices. That's awesome! It's the best song by Lesiëm really. Only Pater Patriae and Roma come close on Illumination. I would have regretted buying it, if I didn't like Enae Volare Mezzo, Cathar Rhythm and the remix of Ameno. Haven't actually heard the whole thing yet, so maybe I'll discover more tracks that I like later. |
