Winter Storytelling Festival (Georgia)/Fun At Work Day/Jazz Day/Backwards Day
2004-01-30 @ 10:04 p.m.

The French people were late for class today. Big deal, it's just one absence, even if the second one does mean I'll get suspended for a week. I think the new rules for the J1s are rubbish anyway. If they don't treat us like young adults, frankly I see no reason why we should act our age. I wrote a French essay on why we shouldn't fear death, and I'm like, I don't even do this in English. Anyway, the reason why we were late. We were in Orchard at 5 pm, never mind why, and we tried to flag down a taxi. Guess what? Not a single one would stop for us. Maybe it's just some stupid rule for taxis driving in town, but they all turned into the taxi stand at Takashimaya. That sort of begs the question - Why should the damned taxi driver turn down my money in favour of the money of some man/woman in the queue? It wasn't like we were right outside Takashimaya or anything, we were already all the way at Cineleisure. Then we called CityCab. Man, the operator was quite dumb. "I'm at the intersection of Devonshire Road and Grange Road." "Sorry, you can't wait at the intersection." Like, I'm just telling you my general location, not where I want you to send the taxi to! Then I told her, "Opposite Cineleisure, at the Youth Park." Guess what? She sent the driver to Grange Road, just after the intersection. Was she stupid, or was the driver stupider? He called my handphone twice to ask us where we were, and he still couldn't find us. What the hell? Why am I walking to the taxi that I hired from CityCab? Not only that, I have to pay an extra fee for hiring the bloody taxi. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset about being marked as absent. It's really no big deal. What riles me is the fact that the service was so pathetic. If we had taken the MRT, we'd have got to the MOELC earlier. That's most ironic, considering we all felt the MRT to be a more time-consuming form of transport. I'm never taking CityCab taxis again...
