Today would have been an altogether pleasant day, but it was ruined by the committee meeting held after school, but more on that later. Today's Literature lesson was absolutely hilarious! Mrs Smith and Jiawen were at it again, interrupting each other back and forth, Jiawen arguing a hopeless case, Mrs Smith growing more exasperated and perplexed with Jiawen's arguments. It's really comic from an observer's perspective. I seriously think we should have filmed all the discussions we had on the short stories, they'd make a rather entertaining reality TV series. We'd call it Literature with Rosie: What Really Goes on in Class! Honestly, it's much more fun than watching the RJC video of the teacher tearing up her student's work. Sadly, we've finished going through all the short stories. The memories will remain with me though, for the time being at least. Now on to why today was ruined. Committee meeting was a waste of time, as usual. Why bother to assemble all of us when you basically want to announce your decision? I wasted half an hour of my precious time to hear mumbled interviews taking place less than five metres away. Why? The primary reason is that the interviews are being conducted solely for the benefit of Ms Chiang and Shane. Everyone else wasn't really paying much attention, and the candidates weren't looking at us anyway. Shane asked all the questions, which were, by the way, a fixed set of standard questions, and all the answers were duly noted by the two of them. The occasional glance at the rest of the committee passed for an attempt to involve us in the pseudo-decision-making process. I can tell that I'm not the only one upset with how things are being done. It's not fair to keep us in the dark about things, and then turn around and berate us for not caring! Anyway, the new committee underwent minor changes, or perhaps major changes, depending on how you view things. I'm not pleased with the changes, but as I can't really say anything against Ms Chiang, I'm helpless. I do wonder though, why did Ms Chiang allow a "question mark" as she called it, to become the chairman? Apparently, she's allowed to veto the committee's decision, so why didn't she do it last year? Was it because the alternative would have been to make Shane the chairman, which would have seemed like nepotism? It all doesn't add up! There were lots of other people who deserved to be the chairman. I don't profess to be one of them, but I'm sure Shen Ting would agree that there really were. I think this whole business of AGM is damn screwed up. I'm not impressed with Ms Chiang's explanations for her choices, they're too presumptious. The way I see it, if everyone's supposed to support each other and cover for each other, what's the point of objecting to the people we proposed, especially for the key positions? What's in a name after all? She can say that we're taking the posts business too seriously, but I think she's the one who's making that mistake. Good luck to our successors, may you be less screwed up than us! Buck the trend! Don't get involved in choir politics, though there's little chance of that... |
