Romance Day/Send An Email Greeting Day/Watermelon Jubilee (Alabama)/Harvest Festival (Minnesota)/Gladiolus Festival (Illinois)/Middle Children's Day

Happy 38th Birthday Singapore! The National Day Parade was quite nice, as always, though it tends to get a tad stale because the format's basically the same each year. This year's song is nice though, though I'm betting that Stefanie Sun won't be singing the next one. Three years in a row just seems too unfair! Incidentally, this is one of the rare occasions when I actually feel a spark of patriotism. Most of the time, I'm just happy to be Singaporean, nothing more than that. I should feel guilty about that, I guess, but I just don't! It's not my fault you know, I prefer to think of myself as a global citizen. I wouldn't mind migrating someday, and I definitely intend to study abroad, even if I have to study and work at the same time to pay for my education. I just don't see myself staying in Singapore, not in the immediate future at least. You can't escape National Service of course, so that keeps me tied down here until I'm 45, if I'm not wrong. I would like to retire in New Zealand, provided I'm rich. If not, I can forget about retiring anyway! Brothers 4 is amusing, by the way.

You're not going to believe what just happened. I was reading Reader's Digest, and I came across this bit of trivia. Cockroaches can survive with their heads chopped off, for a few days at least. So I was telling this to my mum, who was washing clothes in the toilet. Then out of nowhere, this cockroach came crawling over her foot. It was damn uncanny! Now my dad just caught another one. Are the insects celebrating National Day too? The mosquitoes are eating me alive! By the way, did you know turtles exhibit what is known as negligible senescence? It means they don't age biologically once they reach maturity. So theoretically, turtles could live forever! On a sidenote, I've almost finished downloading Synaesthesia's entire output, by the same guys that make up Delerium. Not too difficult, they only have three albums after all. It's ambient music, sort of like the more recent sound of Delerium. Not sure if I should try Front Line Assembly, it's industrial, and they've put out dozens of CDs! I'd never finish downloading everything. Need to buy more CD-Rs now, and I want to buy the S Club greatest hits album! Someone lend me money?
